Refinery strike: fuel supply threat

Updated on 27 April 2008

By Andy Davies

Workers at the Ineos Grangemouth oil refinery in Scotland officially begin their 48-hour strike which threatens to disrupt fuel supplies.

Fuel unloaded by ship to Scotland was distributed to garages across the region.

Jim Ratcliffe, 55, who lives in the south of England, owns two-thirds of the Ineos group.

Since its inception in 1998 the company has grown into the world's third largest chemicals company.

It has an annual turnover of around £22.6bn. Grangemouth is just one part of his empire.

Today he was ranked number 25 on the new Sunday Times Rich List.

His estimated personal wealth is £2.3bn.
