RBS may ask shareholders for funds

Banking shares tumble with the news that the Royal Bank of Scotland may ask its shareholders for more funds to shore up its balance sheet.
The Bank has not confirmed or denied reports that it is about to announce a rights issue aimed at raising billions of pounds, but the speculation was enough to spark fears across the banking sector.
