Disgraced former Royal Bank of Scotland boss Sir Fred Goodwin was among the guests entertained by Gordon Brown at Chequers last year.

The ex-RBS chief executive attended the Prime Minister's country retreat almost six months before being forced to quit after taking the bank to the brink of financial ruin.

Outgoing Lloyds chairman Sir Victor Blank - criticised for leading a takeover of troubled HBOS - is also named on a guest list newly published by Downing Street.

Also included are well-known names from the world of showbusiness, including veteran entertainer Bruce Forsyth and Little Britain comedy duo Matt Lucas and David Walliams.

Labour activist Derek Draper, who quit as editor of a Labour blog earlier this year amid the scandal over a proposed smear campaign by a senior Brown aide, also appeared on the 2008/9 guest list.

Chief of the Defence Staff Sir Jock Stirrup attended as well.
