Price of flying takes off

British Airways warns passengers that ticket prices will rise by at least 17 per cent at Heathrow.

The UK's largest airline angrily accused the Civil Aviation Authority of 'caving in' to pressure from the airport operator BAA to significantly hike landing fees after the regulator's decision to grant BAA the right to charge airlines an extra 23 per cent in fees.

The CAA said the extra fees were justified to pay for Terminal 5 and additional security, but as BAA complains the settlement doesn't give it enough.
