Hundreds of oil tanker drivers will go on strike tomorrow - after talks between employers and union leaders broke down tonight. A tenth of Britain's filling stations could be hit by the four day walkout over pay.
The government has urged motorists not to panic buy but, Channel 4 News has learned - petrol sales have soared by a third over the last 48 hours.
Earlier Gordon Brown refused to rule out the possibility that the army could be called in to stop the pumps running dry.
