Ofgem: 'energy markets work well'

Gas and electricity markets are working well for most customers with no evidence of a cartel, according to a report from the energy watchdog.

But in a report into industry practices it acknowledged that penalties for consumers paying by different methods are unfair, and that those who haven't switched suppliers are at a disadvantage in the current market.

Pressure groups are unhappy, with one saying that Ofgem has failed some of the poorest customers in the country.
