Nationwide steps in for Dunfermline
Updated on 30 March 2009
The chancellor Alistair Darling is expected to make a statement in the commons after Nationwide buys the Dunfermline Building Society
The sale comes 48 hours after the government said the 140-year-old building society was to be put on the market because it had incurred losses of £26m.
Nationwide has taken over the branches, good loans and deposits, but it is still not clear what the cost will be to the tax payer or what redundancies will be made.
