MPs rebuke state bank group chiefs

MPs at a Treasury committee hearing scold the money men in charge of the government's stake in the part-nationalised banks.

Well, if you have ever shown up to school without your homework, you will know how John Kingman felt this morning.

He is the chief executive of the government's new banking holding company and John McFall of the Commons Treasury Committee was the angry teacher flexing his cane.

UK Financial Investments was hastily created to manage the government's stakes in four banks - Northern Rock, Bradford and Bingley, RBS and Lloyds Banking Group, and the two bosses took a grilling from MPs this morning for not preparing properly.
