US prosecutors accuse Bernard Madoff of sending a million dollars worth of jewellery and other valuables to family and friends.
Authorities in the US have asked a judge to jail Bernard Madoff, the investment manager accused of swindling billions of dollars from clients.
Prosecutors accuse him of sending jewellery and other items worth more than a million dollars to friends and family in violation of his bail conditions.
As Madoff appeared in court, a Senate Committee was discussing his alleged fraud - and attacking the regulators who failed to spot it.
US authorities are still assessing the full extent of the losses caused by Madoff, who is under house arrest in his Manhattan apartment. His assets have been frozen.
