Lorry drivers in London fuel picket

By Lindsay Taylor

Updated on 29 April 2008

Eight years after causing fuel shortages by picketing oil refineries, lorry drivers return to the streets to protest about the cost of diesel.

Meanwhile, Royal Dutch Shell and BP have announced profits of more than £7bn in the first three months of this year and British Airways said it would be increasing fuel surcharges next month.

Dozens of lorries converged on Park Lane in central London in a demonstration against 30 per cent price rises in the last year.

The rising cost of fuel has been caused by higher oil prices, which have led to bigger profits for the industry.
