Local newspapers in turmoil

Modern developments like blogging, citizen journalism and Twitter have all taken their toll on newspapers, but local press have perhaps been hit hardest.

With advertising revenue down, journalists are finding themselves out of a job and in turn, local amenities like councils and courts are finding themselves free to operate without scrutiny of the press. But what are the consequences?
