Interest rates on hold at 0.5 per cent

As expected, the Bank of England's monetary policy committee has voted to keep rates on hold for the fourth month in a row at 0.5 per cent.

But the bank has not announced any extension to the quantitative easing programme, a scheme to boost the economy by effectively 'printing money'.
