Immigration will be 'properly controlled' when Romania and Bulgaria join the European Union next year - the Government has promised - insisting there would be no 'open door policy'.

The Conservatives have demanded tougher restrictions on migrant workers - and claimed Britain should learn the lesson of the 'unprecedented numbers' who arrived here after the last EU expansion two years ago.

John Sparks reports.
