The UK's biggest bank announces it is cutting hundreds of jobs, reports Cathy Newman.

HSBC said 1,100 jobs were going worldwide, almost half of them in Britain.

And retailers are continuing to struggle.

John Lewis, seen as a bell weather of the industry, has reported a sharp drop in sales.
