Grangemouth strike to be escalated

Updated on 24 April 2008

By Andy Davies

Union leaders say the strike planned for Sunday and Monday at the huge Grangemouth oil refinery could be escalated.

The planned strike will shut down one of the Europe's biggest oil refineries on the Firth of Forth.

The refinery's operator, Ineos, has warned that the stoppage will cause chaos across the UK. But the government and the Scottish Executive say there are 'substantial' stocks and drivers don't need to stock up with petrol.

The strike is over plans to close the final salary pension scheme to new members.
