Germany guarantees all saving

Germany has promised to guarantee all private savings accounts after an emergency meeting between the Chancellor Angela Merkel and the country's central bank

This comes just one day after Mrs Merkel joined Europe's three other top leaders in promising co-ordinated action.

Britain's Treasury told Channel 4 News they were urgently seeking to clarify Germany's position.
