The opening of London Heathrow's multibillion pound Terminal 5 ended in chaos yesterday with its baggage handling system suspended and dozens of flights cancelled.

BA chief executive Willie Walsh has called the chaotic opening of Heathrow's Terminal 5 "not our finest hour".

Thirty-five short haul and domestic flights were cancelled yesterday as long queues and a suspended baggage handling system made for a chaotic first day at the terminal, with more disruption expected today.
