A former cricketer is throwing in a free car with each of three new houses he is struggling to sell because of the slow property market.

Alistair Dalton, who became a property developer after quitting professional cricket, said he hoped putting a new Ford Fiesta in the garage of each home would be the incentive potential buyers needed.

The three £275,000 homes are part of a six-house development in the village of Newton, near Porthcawl, south Wales.

John Morgan, a partner in Watt & Morgan estate agency, which is marketing the properties, said they had been on the market for about six months.

"It's a tough property market, the confidence has gone and all we are trying to do is help it back a bit," he said.

"We thought of this deal to bring attention to the houses for sale."

Mr Dalton, a former Glamorgan cricketer, told the Western Mail newspaper: "I feel that the market is very slow and everything seems so negative that if a couple think they are going to save a couple of hundred pounds every month on a car that might be the extra push they need to buy a new house.

"The car offer is dependent on the full asking price being paid for the house and on contracts being exchanged before the end of October."

The three houses, in Austin Way, each have four bedrooms, a kitchen/dining area, a cloakroom, en suite shower room and family bathroom.
