Some parts of the economy are performing very well despite, or even because of, the downturn.
The pawn broking industry just one example, as illustrated by the National Pawnbrokers Association survey of more than 400 members.
Seventy-five per cent reported an increase in business over the last six months, while almost 78 per cent expect to do a roaring trade in the next s ix months.
The no-frills supermarket sector is another success story. For example the privately owned chain Aldi, where as the price of food has soared its been attracting swathes of more upmarket shoppers to its 380 UK stores
