Close the pay gap, say Tube workers

Updated on 04 November 2009

London Underground workers have staged a demonstration to call for action to "close the gap" on differences in pay between senior executives and other staff.

Unite, which is balloting its Tube members for industrial action over pay, said an "obscene" 10-1 wage gap was causing "growing frustration" among workers.

Regional officer John Morgan-Evans said: "This company must see that it is just not acceptable to let such a huge gap in earnings open up between workers and managers.

"London Underground must address our members' legitimate pay claims and act to end the ridiculous pay gap between the lower paid bulk of the workforce and the highly paid executives in Transport for London."

The protest was held outside LU's London head office.
