Another intervention from President Bush as congressmen squabble over his massive bailout deal.
The president has been trying to calm the markets by declaring a rescue package would be passed.
Last night there were high hopes of agreement, but they were frustrated by right-wing Republicans who dug in their heels.
Now there is fresh talk of a deal within days and senators have pledged to stay in discussions as long as it takes.
And at the eleventh hour John McCain said he would be going to the first presidential debate in Mississippi.
