By Carl Dinnen

Updated on 29 August 2008

The budget transatlantic airline, Zoom, grounded all its flights last night following the company's collapse.

Hundreds of passengers of the budget airling Zoom have been stranded and up to 60,000 left with cancelled tickets after the company prepared to go into administration.

Blaming high fuel costs, the Gatwick based transatlantic carrier which operates out of five UK airports, apologised to customers for the inconvenience of having to fund new flights - saying it was 'a tragic day for our passengers and over 600 staff'.

Passengers on both sides of the Atlantic face spending hundreds of pounds booking alternative flights
