At the end of a week of market jitters throughout the world, Gordon Brown has warned that there's worse to come.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the prime minister cautioned against complacency and said there was a danger of "over-emphasising the silver lining at the expense of the clouds."

He urged European countries to avoid protectionism and open up their markets to help deal with a possible global downturn.
