Updated on 05 July 2009
Britons own an average of nine cars in their lifetime, with six of the vehicles bought before the age of 40, it has been revealed.
But the recession is likely to lead to drivers hanging on to their motor for longer, a survey by Tescocompare.com found.
As many as 29% of those polled said they were less likely to change their car in the next 12 months, with 23% considering selling one of their cars to cut costs.
