British Gas owner, Centrica, announces another round of price hikes

Updated on 30 July 2008

By Faisal Islam

Britain's biggest domestic energy supplier has announced another hike in prices, with a 35 per cent increase in gas bills and an extra nine per cent for electricity.

The owner of British Gas, Centrica, blamed soaring wholesale energy prices for the latest increases, which follow a rise of 15 per cent rise at the beginning of the year.

Centrica is the second energy supplier to raise its prices in recent weeks.

EDF Energy announced a few days ago that its bills would rise by as much as 22 per cent.
