Bingo halls ready for £1m prize

A bingo prize of at least £1 million is being launched as a result of new gambling laws.

The National Bingo Game is launching its new £1 million jackpot called the Big N on September 15. It will roll over until there is a winner.

Its launch follows the Gambling Act's introduction on September 1, which means bingo halls no longer have to return all stakes as prize money.

Instead, they can keep some money behind to offer as rollover prizes.

The computer-controlled National Bingo Game is played in around 500 licensed bingo clubs that link up to play twice a day every day of the year, except Christmas Day.

The National Bingo Game Association spokesman Steve Baldwin said: "It is great to see that after 21 years, we are still shaking things up with the largest ever jackpot game in bingo."

Players will be able to see the jackpot prize increasing as a result of new ticket sales via the digital computer displays.

The initial £1 million jackpot comes from the pockets of the National Bingo Game Association rather than players' stake money.
