The Competition Commission says BAA's ownership of UK airports may not be serving passengers' and airlines' interests.

It runs seven of the country's biggest airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick and Edinburgh.

But competition chiefs say airport operators BAA's ownership may not be serving the interests of passengers or airlines.

The government said it would order a review of the way the UK's airport system is regulated - which could lead to a break-up of BAA's empire.

The Competition Commission does have the power to break up BAA's near-monopoly by forcing it to sell one or more of its airports.

Could that lead to cheaper fares and less passenger chaos?
