BA boss: 'Not our finest hour'

Updated on 28 March 2008

By James Blake

BA chief executive Willie Walsh brands the mounting chaos at Heathrow's Terminal 5 on its second day as "not our finest hour".

The BA boss admitted that they and airport operator BAA got things wrong, despite anticipating some of the teething problems, particularly over the new baggage system.

The problems at the new £4.3bn terminal continued into a second day with planes cancelled, long queues and furious passengers.

The queues started at 4am and by breakfast time 36 flights, all of them short-haul, had been axed.
