The awards ceremony took place on Wednesday night and the judges said:

"The winner of this year's award impressed the judges with its commitment to personal finance issues and ability to make the subjects accessible to their audience."

Special reference was made to money reporter, Bridgid Nzekwu and producer, Ben King. The duo picked up the money brief a year ago.

Julie Hulme, senior programme editor of the News at Noon acknowledged the importance of personal finance in the current climate.

She said: "It's great for Channel 4 News to receive high recognition for its commitment to covering personal finance every day.

"This award recognises the ongoing hard work of our money team who have consistently delivered original and imaginative coverage on the impact on individuals of the current financial crisis."

The team were up against: Alvin Hall's World of Money, BBC Money Box, and Money Talk - The Motley Fool podcast.
