Peter Hain announces a rescue package for 140,000 workers who lost their pensions when their employers went bust.

The government's announcement means that protection for people before 2005 will be brought into line with the more generous support available since then.

The new deal has been welcomed by trade unions, which have been campaigning for compensation for more than five years.
