Doctor Who star David Tennant has been voted the most ideal celebrity teacher by schoolkids across the UK, according to a new survey.

Children were asked which famous figure would make a good teacher and over a quarter revealed the star of the science fiction series as their favourite.

Participants said Tennant's time-travelling antics gave him excellent credentials for teaching science, history and geography.

One 13-year-old said: "I think it would be amazing if David Tennant taught history. He's the Doctor; he's been around since the beginning of time. Who knows more about history than him?"

Harry Potter author JK Rowling bagged the second spot as the best celebrity English teacher because of her ability to write good stories.

Football star David Beckham was the most popular choice for celebrity PE teacher and The Queen came in ninth place because of her ability to "tell amazing stories".

Billie Piper; Hilary Duff; Kylie Minogue; Tracey Beaker; Richard Branson;and the cast of High School Musical also made the top ten list.
