Updated on 24 October 2007

After years of entertaining kids on screen with his comedy characters, actor Steve Martin is hoping to find success with his own children's book.

The Hollywood star, who has no kids of his own, has penned The Alphabet From A To Y With Bonus Letter Z!

But the verteran funnyman hasn't given up his film career and returns to the big screen in The Pink Panther 2 in 2009.

Despite the previous instalment, starring R&B diva Beyoncé, being panned by critics, The Pink Panther was a box office smash.

The new film will see Monty Python star John Cleese star as Chief Inspector Dreyfus and will be joined on screen by Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai.

British star Emily Mortimer and Moroccan-born actor Jean Reno are all expected to return to the new project.
