Singin' in the Rain storms to No.1
Updated on 09 June 2008
A remix of Singin' in the Rain by dance outfit Mint Royale has topped the UK singles chart this week.
The song stormed to the top of the charts after being used in a dance routine by Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson in the semi-final of the show.
The big beat version of the song, which was originally made famous by Gene Kelly, knocked R & B singer Rihanna off the top spot, with her single, Take a Bow coming in at number two in the top 40.
Meanwhile Modfather Paul Weller's new album, 22 Dreams, has gone straight to number one in the UK album charts, his ninth solo studio album.
Last week's number one album, Here I Stand, by R & B star Usher, fell back to number five in the charts, just behind The Best of Radiohead album, which entered the charts at number four.
The new album by Liverpool-based indie-rock band The Zutons, You Can Do Anything, charted at number six, while Duffy, whose debut album Rockferry has been in the charts for the past 14 weeks, rose to number two.
Veteran US singer Neil Diamond's album, Home Before Dark, was number three in the albums chart, while his The Best of album climbed to number seven after being in the top 40 for as many weeks, according to the Official UK Charts Company.
Apart from Singin' in the Rain, no other newly-released songs made the top ten single chart this week. The next highest place newly-released single was All You Need Is Me by Morrissey, which charted at number 24.
