Daniel Radcliffe is set to be out of a job soon as his play Equus is closing just three months after it opened to rave reviews.

The move follows reports that directors were looking for a new actor to succeed Radcliffe, 17, who found fame in his role as Harry Potter.

The play had been a sell-out success due partly to Radcliffe's legions of fans and the production has recouped its investment in a record-breaking eight weeks since opening.

The play will go on a national tour after it closes at London's Gielgud Theatre but the new cast for the show has not been announced yet.

A Broadway production will open next year, with an Australian show expected to follow.

It was recently reported that Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell was set to strip off for the London stage to succeed Radcliffe, after film star Orlando Bloom was said to have turned down the role.
