Former tabloid editor Piers Morgan has won the live US final of Celebrity Apprentice.

Morgan was frequently described as ruthless, vicious and evil as he fought off the other 13 celebrities, winning more tasks than anybody else.

As host Donald Trump announced the winner, he told Morgan: "You're a vicious guy, I've seen it. You can try and dispute it.

"But you did an amazing job and you beat the hell out of everybody."

The 42-year-old won the show's prize of $250,000 (£125,000) for charity after a final which was billed as "good versus evil, America versus Britain".

In the final boardroom session, Morgan referred to his portrayal in the series and said of his country singer rival Trace Adkins: "He's an all-American hero. I'm an evil obnoxious disgusting Brit."

Morgan has said he considered quitting the show after an episode in which he lost his cool after reality TV star Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth repeatedly attacked his family and personal life.
