Elizabethan theatre where Shakespeare once worked unearthed in Shoreditch

Archaeologists have uncovered what they believe to be the foundations of a theatre where Shakespeare once worked.

It is in exactly the right part of Shoreditch to excite interest and miraculously no one has ever disturbed the ground with deep foundations.

It is believed that Shakespeare once lived in Shoreditch and, after drilling through concrete, traces of what is suspected to be the Elizabethan playhouse The Theatre have been uncovered.

It is thought to have been the theatre where Shakespeare worked before the building was dismantled and moved across the river, where it was used in the construction of The Globe.

Nicholas Glass met Jo Lyon, an archaeologist from the Museum of London, who showed him around the site.
