X-Men and Star Trek star Patrick Stewart is set to appear in the play MacBeth.

The actor will take up the role of Shakespeare's Scottish King for the next couple of months at the Gielgud Theatre, in London.

Patrick has been a Shakespearean actor for 50 years.

He said: "I got my first shot at playing Macbeth when I was 15 and I lost out to somebody else.

"I've waited 40 odd years to do this part and I think every night is full of discoveries."

The star also revealed that before he broke into acting, he worked on a local paper in Yorkshire.

He added: "I was a journalist for about 15 months on a local weekly newspaper and I was terrible at it.

"I had a rather evil tempered editor who didn't like me taking time off who didn't like me doing theatre. He gave me an ultimatum so I walked off the paper."
