In terms of commercial success and industry awards, Michael Jackson was the most successful entertainer of all time.

He was a child star by the age of nine with his brothers in the Jackson Five, and his solo album Thriller - released 25 years ago - is the biggest selling album ever.

Here's a breakdown of his key moments.



  • 1985: is paid $47m for the publishing rights to the Beatles back catalogue.
  • 1987: releases the song Bad and bought the Neverland ranch in California.
  • 1993: A 13-year-old boy named Jordan Chandler claims Jackson sexually abused him during a visit to the ranch.
  • 1994: marries Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of rock legend Elvis Presley, but the marriage only lasts 19 months and the pair divorce.
