Tenor scales operatic heights
Updated on 11 January 2007
Young star Juan Diego Florez takes on one of the most demanding roles in opera.
It's been called the Mount Everest for tenors.
La Fille du Regiment is so difficult to sing that only the finest can conquer it, including an aria with nine top C notes.
Tonight the opera opens at the Royal Opera House in London. It was last performed there 40 years ago by Pavarotti - and helped to make his name.
Now the young opera star Juan Diego Florez takes on the lead role.
