A leaked document, which purports to be a legal response by Heather Mills McCartney, sets out a catalogue of accusations against Sir Paul. The former model, 38, made no reference to the allegations when she appeared on BBC1's City Hospital today to talk about a new pain management treatment.

Mishcon de Reya, the law firm representing her in the divorce, said they did not comment on "leaked or allegedly leaked documents".

A spokesman for the firm, which also represented Diana, Princess of Wales in her divorce from Prince Charles, added: "We can however confirm that Lady Heather Mills McCartney stands by everything that has been filed at court on her behalf and intends to prove its truth in due course should this be necessary.

"We would ask that the parties' privacy during what is a difficult and emotional time be respected." A spokesman for Sir Paul, 64, made no immediate comment on the allegations.

The couple, who had a daughter Beatrice in 2003, announced their separation in May this year after four years of marriage.

Relations between the pair appear to have grown increasingly hostile since then.
