Eighteen years after forming, rock band Elbow take the Mercury music prize. Stephanie West reports exclusively for Channel 4 News online.

Success finally came to the band that waited as Elbow won the Nationwide Mercury Prize last night.

The Bury band's debut album was nominated in 2001, but it was their fourth creation, The Seldom Seen Kid, that was voted British album of the year at London's Grosvenor House Hotel. They beat Radiohead, Estelle, and Adele to the trophy.

This is turning out to be a good year for the band. Their single Grounds For Divorce is currently plastered all over the trailer for the Coen brothers' new film, Burn After Reading.

Lead singer Guy Garvey and bassist Pete Turner spoke to Channel 4 News at the bash.
