Leona Lewis is the first British songstress to reach number one in the United States for 21 years - why so long since our starlets topped their pops?

Britain leads the world in pop music - well so we're told. But the last time a British woman was top of the American charts was in 1987.

This week Leona Lewis is set to repeat the feat last achieved by Kim Wilde - so why has it taken so long - and why her ? Rags Martel reports.
