Cannes hails Joy Division movie
Updated on 18 May 2007
A new film about Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis is taking Cannes by storm.
Ian Curtis was the frontman of Joy Division for just a few short years before taking his own life at the age of 23.
But his hypnotic stage presence and brooding lyrics guaranteed him cult status - and a new film about his life is taking Cannes by storm.
Control is the first movie directed by Anton Corbin, a veteran of rock photography who immortalised U2 on the cover of their Joshua Tree album.
Curtis himself is played by the unknown actor Sam Riley, whose resemblance to the singer landed him the part.
