Updated on 16 August 2007

By Nicholas Glass

The King is dead - but the iconic singer has remained stubbornly alive in the minds of his multitude of fans.

Thirty years after the death of Elvis Presley, thousands of fans have gathered at his former home in Memphis, and around the world, to pay tribute to him.

After three decades, there's no sign that his popularity is waning. The Elvis estate has already been hugely successful in raiding their wallets, but Elvis enterprises plan to triple the sales of the singers' merchandise.

Getting richer

He is now the second highest earning celebrity from beyond the grave, beaten only by Kurt Cobain.

Last year, Elvis Presley Enterprise, which includes his former home Graceland, made more than £22m in the States.

There, remembering Elvis is a profitable business. Whether you're a tribute artist or memorabilia seller, the coming year looks set to be one of the best yet.

Celebrations

Today, 30 years since the death of the king of rock and roll, Elvis impersonators across the globe are putting on their sequined jumpsuits and perfecting their quiffs to remember the king of rock and roll.

Graceland, has become the centre of events for thousands of devoted fans.
