Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day revives the glamour of 1930s Hollywood

Updated on 12 August 2008

By Nicholas Glass

Hollywood film, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, hails from a 1930s novel by Winifred Watson, a Geordie lass in love with the glamour of the movies.

It is 1939 London and Guinevere Pettigrew is a middle-aged English governess, out of work and down on her luck.

Delysia Lafosse is a glamorous American actress and singer who is looking for a maid to do more than lay out her dresses for the evening.

She needs someone to sort out her romantic life and Miss Pettigrew assumes the role.
