Updated on 07 December 2007

By Channel 4 News

At the age of 87, Mickey Rooney will achieve a first this weekend as he appears in pantomime.

He's one of several Americans lured here by lucrative panto fees.

The veteran of stage and screen, who appeared with Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet and performed with Judy Garland, will enter the Guinness Book of Records next year as the actor with longest career on both stage and screen.

He'll play Baron Hardup in Sunderland and his wife Jan the fairy godmother.
