The Queen joins YouTube

The Queen has launched a royal page on YouTube, giving access to archive material and behind-the-scenes footage.

Among the videos of ironing-board surfing, yoga for cats and ninjas who give advice on DIY, the video site has a new contributor.

Buckingham Palace has had its own website for ten years, but YouTube offers even greater reach with an estimated 100 million videos watched each day on the site.

The Palace says the Queen is very enthusiastic about the channel.

The Queen podcasted her Christmas message last year but it is not clear quite how technology savvy Her Majesty is.

When the Queen knighted Microsoft mogul Bill Gates, it was reported she confessed to him that she did not know how to use a computer.

Buckingham Palace has stressed Her Majesty owns a mobile phone but they were coy about her ability to use an iPod or a blackberry.
