Politicians wade into prank row

By Lucy Manning

Updated on 28 October 2008

The BBC says it is "too early to speculate" on whether Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand will face action over their prank phone call.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown described the call, to actor Andrew Sachs, as "clearly inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour".

Meanwhile politicians from all sides have rushed to criticise the BBC, with some demanding resignations and sackings. Conservative leader, David Cameron, also joined in the outrage.

The presenters have kept their heads down all day, and the BBC has refused to give interviews about it - all of which has stoked the fury even more.
