Nick Clarke: a voice of reason

Nick Clarke, the presenter of BBC Radio 4's The World At One, has died, aged 58.

Nick Clarke, whose death was announced today, was known for his calm, courteous manner and forensic mind.

After more than a decade presenting BBC Radio's The World at One, he had become an institution - an interviewer renowned for his ability to put politicians through the journalistic wringer.

When he contracted cancer last year, he had his left leg amputated and kept an audio diary of his treatment.
