Kutcher and CNN in popularity test

Updated on 17 April 2009

By Ben King

Actor Ashton Kutcher has beaten news organisation CNN in a battle to become the first to reach 1 million followers on Twitter.

With a mobile phone or computer, you can post a brief message on Twitter, in 140 characters or less.

CNN posts updates on major breaking news stories while Kutcher, the star of Punk'd and That 70s show and husband of Demi Moore, posts news of the life of Ashton Kutcher.

He promised to make a donation to a malaria charity if he won and the makers of the online game the Sims promised to model a character after his millionth follower.

The (sort of) great Twitter challenge

Ashton Kutcher? Pah! CNN? Whatever. @channel4news and @krishgm are going head-to-head to hit the big 10,000 (oh, yes). Click on one - or both - of the links above and start following.
